Google's Bard Unveiled

Plus: How to use ChatGPT for research, image to sound fx, and more

Happy Wednesday and welcome back to AINow!

This is a big day for the AI industry - Google has officially announced its own rival to Microsoft's ChatGPT platform. Their new chatbot is called Bard, and it has been hailed as an exciting challenger in a competition that's heating up between two of the biggest tech players. The rivalry between Google and Microsoft is heating up, and we're excited to watch them battle it out.

Let's get into today's issue!

🔧 Today's Top Tools

  • Convert any image into an AI generated corresponding sound effect

  • Write and schedule tweets & threats that will engage your audience faster

  • AI generated thread and hook ideas, along with powerful built-in analytics tools

  • Use text prompts to generate 360 images

  • Polymath uses machine learning to convert any music library (e.g from Hard-Drive or YouTube) into a music production sample-library.

  • The tool automatically separates songs into stems (beats, bass, etc.), quantizes them to the same tempo and beat-grid (e.g. 120bpm) and analyzes musical structure (e.g. verse, chorus, etc.), key (e.g C4, E3, etc.) and other infos (timbre, loudness, etc.).

What is an action transformer (ACT-1)?

AI has moved at an incredible pace in the last few years. Scaling up Transformers has led to remarkable capabilities in language (e.g., GPT-3, PaLM, Chinchilla), code (e.g., Codex, AlphaCode), and image generation (e.g., DALL-E, Imagen). At Adept, we are building the next frontier of models that can take actions in the digital world—that’s why we’re excited to introduce our first large model, Action Transformer (ACT-1).

Why are we so excited about this?

First, we believe the clearest framing of general intelligence is a system that can do anything a human can do in front of a computer. A foundation model for actions, trained to use every software tool, API, and webapp that exists, is a practical path to this ambitious goal, and ACT-1 is our first step in this direction.

Second, the next era of computing will be defined by natural language interfaces that allow us to tell our computers what we want directly, rather than doing it by hand. We hope these snippets of ACT-1 will give you a window into the next frontier of computing as we see it!
